video making questions

The video camera that i have uses a USB cable so I can load video on to my PC. I am wondering if I can use that to do live streaming video like for a webcam or vlog. Does anyone know more about this than I do?

I feel so dumb these days between politics and computer junk

And I forgot to title my last entry too. The time is also set wrong in the blog entry mode but it is correct in my profile. What the heck?

I think I will eat some banana creme oreos for comfort.

So, Jason has been working on getting us our computers upgraded for a while now, like, since June Part of my system is new speakers. That was cemented last night as I was sitting here web browsing and listening to Sarah McLaclan. Jason came to the kitchen to get more cold meds and commented that it sounded like my tunes were coming from four blocks away.

I'm trying to find some speakers, super soon, which have decent sound quality and a pleasing price tag. J suggested looking into Mako as we were eating dinner but based on the price he told me I think they'd be overkill. Never heard of them before so I am hoping for the chance to check out their site some time today. I just could change my mind especially if they have a good deal going at the Military Exchanges over here.

All I want is speakers which look nice (going with the black with blue lights set up) and give clear, realistic sound. Two channel is fine. I don't know what other features I'm looking for. Small footprint (need as much space for junk to live on my desk). I like the idea of no cords.

On another note, I'm going crazy here. I mentioned on Twitter that my browsers were acting strange. Today I'm thinking it is less a browser issue and more of a mouse issue? I have a wireless USB mouse (Logitech LX7) and every minute- yes EVERY minute- a strange thing happens. The window which I'm working in becomes deactivated. I was suspecting that my computer had a virus or something so a couple hours were spent yesterday firing off every system doctor program I have on this laptop. A couple things were found and eradicated but that didn't fix the problem with the deactivating windows. Perhaps resetting the mouse would fix it? Or new batteries? These ones have been in only a couple weeks but sometimes the solution is so simple it makes one sick. All I know is there is a ghost in my machine. DO NOT WANT.

Well, tiem to get on with the day. Catch ya later!

its been forever

Yup. IT's been forever since I blogged on here. I've been flitting about on other places on the web- MySpace, Facebook, Twitter. LOVE Twitter! It is a micro-blog status update site. I don't feel the 'pressure' to write a lot over there that I do in traditional blogs.

Anyway, I felt it was well over time to pop in here again especially since big changes are on the horizon. In early '09 we will be moving off this beautiful (understatement of the year) island of Oahu and back to the mainland, mainly Colorado state. Unless the Air Force changes it again. See, they had originally told us that we'd be going to Central California but then a guy in CO put in his paperwork to retire and his job was a must-fill-immediately position and since the spot in CA became available to us basically by someone requesting Jason and putting in nice words, the CO spot was a higher priority and took the CA spot away from us. We are both happy it has ended up this way. It would have been nice to be in the home state again, but in CO the job he is slated to do is right up his alley and he will hopefully have more work happiness. Not to mention that it is a hotbed of jobs in the civvy world too so if we can stay there until he's set to retire *cross fingers* then we can have things set up nice. My cousin L and auntie M live in that area of CO too.

And there's stuff that Jason and I need to work through as a couple. Just the same junk, different year. I've been seeing a therapist on my own for a while now and asked him to come to a few sessions with me. We do have much better communication now than before, but i am wondering if having a facilitator will help our discussions be more productive.

I read a novel for the first time in ages: Can You Keep A Secret by... aw drat the book is upstairs and I'm down here and don't remember the author's name. But it is the same lady who did the "Shopaholic" series. Quite a nice read. Not heavy at all. Most certainly a chick book though.

Enough blabbering on. Must get on with the day. I wish I really could just sit around in my night gown at the computer all the time though.

the NIN blog!

  • Mood: giddy
  • Music: nine inch nails- pretty hate machine
Wow. All I can think right now is wow. 24 hours after the fact. Last night I went to a Nine Inch Nails concert. This was the first concert I've been to in probably 12 years.

Around a month and a half ago one of my friends saw that NIN was scheduled to come to town. Come hell or high water she was going to be at that concert with somebody. It boiled down to me or her husband. We both were pulling for it to be me At the time my husband didn't have a return date for his deployment, only
that he was due back sometime between the middle to the end of this month. Seeing as the concert was on the 18th, and the original proposed arrival date for him was the 14th, I was cracking my knuckles with anticipation for quite a while. If I hadn't been able to come to the concert my friend would have taken her husband. No offense meant to him but we all know a concert with your man isn't nearly as much fun as with one of your girls! So the day the tickets went on sale she went and scored two of them.

Last week I still didn't know clearer details about hubby's return so I bluntly asked him in an email if I should look for a sitter for the munchkin or what. He said yes the next day so I asked one of my friends and she couldn't. I was bummed but I had another friend on back up and she came through!

So here we are, day of the concert. I was really excited (duh!) and was telling everyone I bumped into online that I was going to NIN that night! We had our usual breakfast of milk and cereal. Got dressed. Ran a cuple errands. Had sushi for lunch. Played and read together until it was time to go. I dropped the munchkin at my friend's house before dinner time. I thought to myself that I should eat before the concert because I'd never known there to be food at concerts but my adrenaline was so high that I wouldn't have been able to eat anything. Went over to pick up my friend.

We were there quite early so we drank beer, people watched, and smoked until the performance started. I bought a packet of warm roasted spicy almonds to fill my tummy. I hadn't had those since we lived in Florida and they were sooo good!

The opening band was someone I'd never heard before but my friend had. We went into the arena a couple songs into their set and staked out our spot for the night.

Ater what had seemed like a lifetime NIN was finally on stage! Totally surreal! I could barely believe I was actually there. I was bouncing almost the whole show and screaming along with all the words remembered and known. I only have three NIN recordings and they are older ones so admitedly I felt clueless for bits and pieces of the show. Regardless of that it was amazing!

The tickets were for the open floor area in front of the stage so we wormed our way around or a bit and inched closer. We ended up in a pretty intense section of the crowd and some dude went crowd surfing. My friend and I both got kicked in the head! Lucky me got away with just a bonk to the nose but she got worked. I looked over and my eyes bugged out, she was bleeding down the side of her face! So I yelled at her that she was bleeding and we retreated back to the spot where we'd been rocking at before. The gash turned out to be half an inch long and reasonably deep. She got a little dizzy and told me that if that had happened at home she would have gone to the ER for stitches. The bleeding was controlled pretty quick though with the aid of the back of her check book and my pirate bandana. No other major injuries took place. Toward the end of the show someone was getting pretty wild and we were both nervously glancing over.

Now to the fun part, NIN's performance! They sounded great! Trent Reznor didn't miss a beat and he played a little too. He did guitar on some of the songs, Keyboards on a couple and tambourine on many. The band seemed pretty tight too. This was their second trip to Hawaii. Trent Reznor told a humerous antidote about their first time over. To paraphrase: It was 1994. None of them had ever been to Hawaii and they were all determined to do the whole beach thing. So out they went, five of the skinniest whitest guys possible and it was 60 degrees out. They spent five minutes in the water, said F**K THIS! and hit the bars!

There was a screen of lights. They did some really cool effects for "The Great Destroyer" but I don't think they used the light show aspect to it's full potential. I would have liked to have seen a little more of the dancing lights, maybe even programmed to be like a video screen to see closer looks of the performance. Minor things though, really. I am elated I got the chance to see NIN! It was worth waiting over a decade. What made this even more awesome was that this was the last gig of the "Year Zero" tour, and it was the ONLY date in the USA!

I can't believe...

Many random things have been happening lately that have somewhat caught me off guard. Here are a few of them...

The Munchkin is falling asleep by herself  in her crib! No more cuddling her to sleep in my bed. Bittersweetness.

I am a smoker again Light consumption, but still. It started when hubby was away on a business trip.

I have discovered what I think are a couple grey hairs upon my head. I am not old! I am not even 30 yet! Oh well, it happens. I would color my hair regardless of the grey so no big deal, really.

stressing

I am feeling kind of down. I am stressing. Jason and I haven't been getting along splendidly lately. His work sucks and I'm tired all the time. His mom was here for 3 weeks in our house and we have fun together but it wore me out. This lady is a high maintence type. We are in the process of moving to a new house on base, the keys are ours on the 24th. Roofus is very sick and I am trying to prepare myself that he might be dying very soon. I am anxiously awaiting a call from our Vet. I hope she can tell me if he is in any pain.  I should be packing things up right now but I am majorly spacing out. Maybe when the munchkin wakes up we will go for a walk but it is insanely hot out for sure. My parents arrive tomorrow night to help with the move and I really feel like I need them right now. I am missing them so much.  That is all for the time being. Now you know why I haven't been pestering everyone as much as usual.

has anybody seen...

No, not a dog dyed dark green with sun glasses and a bonnet. Although I would like to have a canine companion someday.

Has anybody seen a way to get liquid car wax residue off the windshield? The dirt and dust is sticking to the wax and getting all gooky. I am seriously going blind over here.

Got to go, my brain is fried from playing Upwords with my hubby and mother in law.

Dang MySpace!

  • Mood: impatient
This MySpace thing is far too addicting. Dangerous. A 'stay at home' mom like mysel does not need ammo for doing friendly stalking of people from times and places far away. If it wwasn't being so slow loading right now I'd be a much happier girl.
